Drop/Add Period July 21-23

Students may see their draft Fall 2014 schedules and request schedule changes through Infinite Campus from July 21-23, 2014. 11th and 12th grade students who meet the required criteria will be able to opt out of either 1st or 7th periods. All students should log into Infinite Campus during this window to see their draft schedules. Please remember that these are draft schedules and may change before Meet the Teacher on August 5. Summer Office Hours

The SMHS office will operate summer hours from June 2 until July 20. The office will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 AM until 5 PM. SMHS will be closed on Fridays during this period. (posted 5/30/14)

The Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP) is a four-week, summer residential program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Activities provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to become independent, life-long learners. The 2014 Starr's Mill High School Prom will be held at the Opera Saturday, April 19, from 6 pm - 10 pm.

Tickets will be sold during all 3 lunches Tuesday, April 1 - Friday, April 18.

Ticket price for juniors and seniors who DID pay junior dues: $0

Ticket price for juniors and seniors who DID NOT pay junior dues: $100

Ticket price for guests: $100

Daily Bell Schedule changes due to snow days

In an effort to make up instructional time due to the snow days, we have reduced the number of days we attend Instructional Focus period. You can see the daily bell schedule here. Please note on days without an Instructional Focus period (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) all students with a 6th period class will leave school at 3:45 pm. (posted 3/13/14)

Vivian Nguyen is Fayette County Star Student!!Vivian Nguyen has been selected as Star Student for Fayette County Schools. Vivian was selected on the basis of her SAT score and will now compete at the Region level. Vivian selected Mr. Campbell, her Math teacher, as her Star Teacher. 1st Year Debaters Win State Titles!!

8th Grade Orientation Date Changed to March 3

8th grade orientation has moved to Monday, March 3rd at 6:30 pm. Because of this change we will also move online registration for current 8th graders to March 3rd - 7th. We will still have the CTAE meeting for 8th graders on Monday February 24th during the originally scheduled time, 10:05 am -12:05 pm. Weather Update

Due to the weather conditions, all afterschool activities and practices are cancelled Tuesday, February 11.

Starr's Mill High School will also be closed Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13. All after school activities and practices are also cancelled.

Due to the Winter Break, Starrs Mill High School will reopen on Wednesday, February 19.

Weather Update

Due to deteriorating weather conditions student drivers were released from school 1/28/14 at 1:30 PM. Buses will run at 2:45 PM on 1/28/14. Non-driving students may be checked out of school by a parent before 2:45 in the front or attendance offices. SMHS will be closed on 1/29/14. Students will report today at 8:45 to their Homeroom class. We will not have IF today. Thus, all students should plan to depart school at 3:45 PM unless their class schedule ends before 6th period. Exams will be given Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. Students are exepcted to take all final exams unless they have exempted through the exemption procedure or the class has an EOCT. There are two exam periods daily. Students may check out of school after their exams for that day are complete.

Student Attendance Notification Error

Parents, due to a technical malfunction in our computerized notification system this morning (12/10/13) the parents of every student in the school received a notification that their student was absent from school today. Parent Surveys

We are asking all parents to complete two anonymous surveys to help different agencies assess Starr's Mill High School.

The Georgia Department of Education has created the Georgia Parent Survey to calculate the School Climate Star Rating within the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). All parents of SMHS students are urged to complete this survey to help give a complete and full picture of our school. There are 20 questions and the survey should take 5-10 minutes. The survey will be open until January 31, 2014.

As part of the Fayette County Schools and Starr's Mill High School reaccreditation process our accrediting agency, AdvancEd has created a survey to find out your opinions of our school. All parents of SMHS students are urged to take this survey. Students will take a different survey for the reaccreditation process while at school. There are 42 questions and the survey should take 10-20 minutes. The survey will be open until January 10, 2014.

New Exam Exemption Procedure This Year!

Parents and Students: Semester exemptions will be done differently this year. Students will no longer receive the blue or white form as in the past.

Tuesday, December 10th, students will give verbal notification to the teacher of the class they choose to exempt. In turn the teacher will place the exemption information in Infinite Campus.

Thursday, December 12th, the students will be given a copy of the form in 1st period to bring home for your (parent) signature. The student must return the signed form to their 1st period teacher no later than 9:45 a.m. on Monday December 16th.

Two Starr's Mill Teachers Win Bright Idea Grants from Coweta-Fayette EMC

Coweta-Fayette EMC Award winning teachers!

Two of our teachers: English Teacher Brandon Kendall (L) and Science Teacher Joe Perrotta (R) were awarded Bright Idea Grants by the Coweta-Fayette EMC. Both teachers had to submit applications for the money and were chosen out of over 100 applicants. Coweta-Fayette EMC funds these grants through their Operation Roundup program. Mr. Kendall's grant will help him provide his students with resources for research and debate on issues facing high school students. Mr. Perrotta's grant was for equipment to better illustrate the concepts of Thermodynamics to his classes. (posted 10/29/13)

Students attending the Football game at Whitewater this Friday should be aware of the following rules:

1. Tailgating must take place in front of the school, in the faculty parking lot. Please do not leave trash on the ground.

2. No fans on the field.

Students Taking the ACT Tomorrow!!

To all students taking the ACT this Saturday, October 26th at Fayette County High School: Parking for students taking the ACT on Saturday at Fayette County High School will be limited to the Junior Parking Lot (the lot closest to the Southern Ground Amphitheater) at Fayette County High School in order to also accommodate the Lafayette Marching Classic which will be taking place on campus in Tiger Stadium. If you are taking the ACT this weekend, you will want to arrive early for parking and for the walk to the front of the building to find your room assignment and for check-in. The front doors of Fayette County High School will be open at 7:50am for ACT testers, and testing will begin promptly as scheduled. Please remember your admission ticket and photo ID. Volleyball State First Round Thursday, October 17

The AAAAA Area 4 Runner-Up Lady Panthers Volleyball team will host Gainesville in the first round of the State playoffs on Thursday, October 17, at 6:00 PM in the SMHS Gym. All tickets are $5 and only GHSA passes will be accepted (GHSA rule). This is a best of 5 match. (posted 10/14/13)

PSAT October 16

All 10th grade students, as well as 9th and 11th grade students who signed up for the test, will take the PSAT during school on Wednesday, October 16. State School Superintentdent, Dr. John D Barge hosts online internet safety forum

From Dr. Barge: "Creating a safe environment for our students is one of the most important things we can do as educators. Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are joining with Facebook to host a live online safety forum for Georgia high school juniors and seniors, as well as teachers and parents. If you missed your assigned appointment for senior portraits, now is a good time to schedule an appointment with Prestige Portraits Studio in Fayetteville. Fayetteville Studio Hours Thurs – Sat 9 am – 4 pm The absolute final deadline to be photographed and be included in your 2014 yearbook will be November 29.

After you are photographed you will receive in the mail, watermarked proof sets. You may order portraits by mail or go online to purchase packages and choose your yearbook pose. Deadline for yearbook pose selection: December 7, 2013. If you do not choose a pose, a pose will be made for you by Prestige Portrait's Labs. We want all seniors to be included in this year's 2014 yearbook and have scheduled a final on campus session Wednesday, Oct. 23 for those who cannot go to the studio due to work or limited transportation. Student Dropoff and Arrival Time

In order for Starr's Mill High School faculty and staff to provide adequate supervison of our students, please do not plan to arrive on campus prior to 8:15. SMHS Meet the Teachers Night August 8, 2013

9th and 10th Grade students from 3:30-5:30 PM

11th and 12th Grade students from 6:30-8:30 PM

All students and parents should be in the gym at the above start times. There will be a short orientation in the gym followed by an abreviated school schedule so that all students and parents get to meet all of their teachers. Students will have the opportunity to pay for locker rentals and agendas as well as PTSO memberships and newspaper subscriptions.

Many clubs, organizations, and groups will be located in the cafeteria before and after the schedule to distribute information about their activities. (posted 7/17/13)

Parking changes for 2013-2014

All students will be required to use the parking lot in the rear of the school for the 2013-2014 school year. The parking lot near the front office will be reserved for faculty and visitors only. (posted 7/17/13)

Summer Office Hours
